The picture above is the moon setting over West Maui at dawn. I took the picture from the balcony of our room. I think it's the best picture of our trip. Below, and early morning outrigger ride .

Later that morning, I took Roberta sea kayaking. The white hotel in the picture below is the Fairmont Kea Lani. The second hotel picture below is of the Four Seasons. The building to the right is part of the Wailea Point condominium complex.

I spent the rest of the morning snorkeling, then we drove over to the Iao Valley in the late afternoon for some sightseeing. The valley is a rainforest, and the main attraction is the Iao Needle. The Iao Needle is the lava remnant of a volcano. My pictures don't do it justice; it rises 1,200 feet above the floor of the valley.

I spent the next morning in the water. I took the above right picture when I was snorkeling. When the boat passed by, I knew that I was too far from shore! I had snorkeled from the beach on the left side of the picture.

We spent the afternoon Whale Watching. Although the season had just started, we we're able to see several whales. From January through March, we were told that whales can be spotted very close to Wailea Beach. If you're planning a trip to Hawaii during the winter, I recommend going on a watch sponsored by the Pacific Whale Foundation.

We spent our last night at Ferarro's, one of the restaurants at the Four Seasons. Even though we live near to the beach in California, there's something very special about being able to eat dinner outside while watching the sunset.

We really enjoyed our short vacation in Hawaii. If you've stumbled onto my site while planning for your trip, I hope that you've found the pictures and information helpful. Aloha!

Technical notes: Most of my pictures were taken with a Canon 20D digital camera. I used two Canon lenses during the trip; the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM and the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS. A few above-water and all of the underwater pictures and the video in this travelogue were taken with a very small Canon SD100 digital camera with a Canon underwater housing.

I use Photoshop CS2 to process my pictures; and I use Dreamweaver 8 and Flash 8 for my web site.

Over one thousdand people from all over the world visit my web site every day.
